Cui’s Quest Walkthrough

· 5 min read

Begin Cui's quest by speaking to the little girl puppet near the red-lit stage after Yuzan beneath the Village of Lu. Her Red Ribbon leads into a later search for her grandfather Lu Sanqian in the Mountain of Imprisonment and her parents at Mount Soulrend. This quest spans major story progression, so a pause after the first conversation is expected rather than proof that the task is broken.

Carry the Ribbon into the mountain route

The collected walkthrough places Cui beside a pillar near the Yuzan arena. Speak to her and collect the ribbon before moving on through the underground area. The next major stage is unavailable until you can reach the Mountain of Imprisonment through the later exploration chain.

That mountain access is connected to repairing the Illusory Pipa and progressing around Meigu Lake. Follow those prerequisites instead of searching for Cui's grandfather in the Village of Lu indefinitely. The quest's starting region is not the location of every later family member.

Free Lu Sanqian and keep the quest items

The collected route finds Lu Sanqian in a cage around the Iron Butcher's Camp. After the initial rescue, continue around the locked mountain gate, defeat Bi Feng and collect Rootless Dew behind the gazebo. The Detached Cage Lever encountered on the route is also needed for the later cage interaction.

Further on, the Cavern Passage contains another enemy camp and Lu Sanqian suspended above it. Use the missing-lever mechanism to free him and give him the Rootless Dew. These are specific interactions in the documented route, so having the dew in your inventory without handing it over is not the same as completing that step.

Follow the route toward the shrine

After opening the Shrine Outer Gate, continue toward the Lady's Shrine and speak to Lu Sanqian when you find him collapsed. The collected walkthrough records the ribbon and a letter addressed to Jieyuan among the relevant items from that conversation. Keep them for the next stage rather than treating the grandfather's part as the end of the family search.

The route also intersects other Tales and reward chains in the mountain. That overlap makes it worth checking the journal after each major conversation instead of assuming that every nearby quest item belongs to Cui. This page follows the documented family sequence and does not collapse those other stories into invented prerequisites.

Find the parents at Mount Soulrend

Later progression through Mirage Estate provides the Tiger Cannon and access toward Mount Soulrend. At the Last Mandate Encampment there, speak with Cui's parents and deliver the ribbon and letter through the conversation. The collected walkthrough then continues beyond the burial interaction to the Crusher and the Saw encounter and Jieyuan's final reward conversation.

Separate the rescue from the final reward

Cui's chain continues after the cage sequence, so freeing someone is not the same as finishing the family's story. The Lady Shrine letter and the later parents' location at the Last Mandate Encampment keep the route moving beyond its early rescue. After defeating the Crusher and the Saw, speak to Jieyuan for the Baishan Headband; the Bonesaw is the separate boss reward.

Track the Rootless Dew and Detached Cage Lever by name while preparing the mountain step. Their roles belong to the specific sequence involving Bi Feng and Lu Sanqian, not to every locked cage encountered elsewhere. Keeping the quest items distinct prevents confusion with the Village of Lu cellar route, which uses a different prisoner exchange and different keys.

Understand the Pipa route that links the regions

Myst repairs the Illusory Pipa at her tavern in Pangzhen after you recover its Head, Backplate and Strings. The parts come from Dusk in the Village of Lu, Yubi in the Mandate Encampment and Yan Qiansui at Meigu Lake. Finding the broken instrument starts a longer journey; it does not mean all three repair pieces are available beside its starting location.

The restored instrument has an exploration role as well as a combat role. It clears the relevant mist and wind barriers, including the route toward the Mountain of Imprisonment, where several other quests continue. This makes the Pipa a useful way to understand why a journal objective can remain unresolved while you progress elsewhere.

Treat each newly opened area as a reason to recheck your existing quests. The mountain connects to the Herald's Illusion, Cui's family search and the wider mysteries around the lake, while the Mandate Training Grounds contribute both a Pipa part and another portal interaction. Following those dependencies saves more travel than searching every region again without a specific missing item in mind.

Return when your traversal tools change

A blocked route often means you need a later tool, not that you overlooked a nearby key. The Feather Bow can interact with certain hanging objects, Flaming Mane clears damp brambles, and the Tiger Cannon breaks the rock barriers associated with it. Their discovery order is part of the exploration structure, so an early map can legitimately contain a passage you cannot open yet.

The Illusory Pipa is another important example because its repair spans multiple regions. Once restored, it clears specified mist and wind barriers and opens access to further exploration, including the Mountain of Imprisonment route. Keep the name of the obstacle and the nearest Bell together in your notes so you can return with the right tool.

Opening a physical route and preserving a quest are separate concerns. A new Phantom Edge may let you revisit a chest later, while a story event can already have changed the NPC who would have given you a reward. Before advancing a major quest, check the journal and the relevant missable conditions instead of assuming that fast travel makes every unfinished objective recoverable.

Keep the later story checkpoint separate

The Mirage Estate warning concerns the larger mystery and ending route, not the earlier settlement change after Bai Chilian. Published ending guides recommend completing the available purple story quests before entering the estate. If the game warns about unfinished business, review the journal before continuing rather than assuming that the ability to fast travel makes the warning harmless.

The important connected threads include the Illusory Pipa, the Herald's Illusion and Secrets at the Heart of the Lake. These lead through optional regions, the Acolyte Masks and the Crystal Puppet Eyes, so progress can be blocked by a missing prerequisite somewhere else. A quest being marked optional means the main story can continue without it; it does not mean the quest is irrelevant to the ending you want.

Some objectives continue inside the estate, including later steps involving Long Pillars and Quick Hand Zhang. The practical rule is to finish every currently available prerequisite, then continue those ongoing objectives when the next area makes them accessible. Avoid turning a guide's shorthand about finishing everything first into an impossible demand to collect an item located beyond the checkpoint itself.
