Heal Button Not Working
· 6 min readIf the heal button seems not to work, first check the selected medicine and its remaining uses, then test it in a safe moment and distinguish gradual recovery from an instant heal. The collected sources do not establish a universal healing-input bug or a confirmed fix for every controller. A report about the jump button stopping is not evidence that the same cause affects medicine use.
Check what is actually equipped
The game lets you carry two medicine types, and they can have different recovery behavior. The Healing Gourd supplies direct healing, while other items can restore health over time alongside a secondary effect. If you expect an immediate jump in the health bar from a gradual restorative, a successful use can look less obvious than expected.
Check the charge count of the selected item rather than only the total medicines you own. Bells refill the relevant uses, so testing after a rest can remove an empty-item state from the comparison. Verify your current control binding as well, particularly if you have changed the PC layout or are switching between input methods.
Test outside immediate pressure
Choose a safe situation rather than repeatedly trying to heal during the same enemy combination. If the item works there but fails to help during combat, the problem may concern the opening or the item's recovery timing rather than a completely dead button. Record whether a charge is consumed, an animation begins or the health changes gradually.
Those observations describe different failure cases. An unchanged charge and no action are not the same as a consumed medicine followed by another hit that removes the recovered health. Keep the distinction in your report so that a control problem is not confused with an unsafe healing attempt.
Do not borrow an unrelated bug fix
One collected discussion concerns a controller jump input and possible window-focus behavior. It does not demonstrate the cause of a healing problem, so this page does not present its reply as a verified heal-button solution. Similarly, the official patch's Interact/Talk remapping change is not a documented change to medicine binding.
If multiple inputs stop responding, note whether the game has focus and what device is active, then test the actual bindings you have selected. Treat that as a diagnostic observation rather than proof of a known game-wide issue. The collected evidence does not support a guaranteed reset command, replacement save or hidden configuration edit.
Separate weak healing from failed input
Medicine enhancement and Healing Art can improve recovery or available uses, but neither is a proven repair for an input that does not register. If the item activates normally yet leaves you with too little health, review its level, effect and the available upgrades. If it never activates under a safe, charged test, report that exact case with your platform, patch and control setup.
Record what the game does with the input
A good report says whether the medicine charge changes, whether an animation begins and whether health returns immediately or gradually. Those observations make the problem much more specific than saying that healing is broken. They also help separate an empty item, a recovery effect you did not expect and a command that genuinely does not register.
Keep the selected medicine and binding unchanged while repeating the safe test. If you swap both the input device and the medicine at once, an improvement will not identify which difference mattered. Once the case is clear, use the corresponding medicine, control or technical guidance rather than combining all three into an unsupported universal fix.
Match healing to the opening you have
Your medicine selection should answer the kind of damage you are taking. A direct heal is useful when you need health immediately, while a restorative that works over time asks you to survive long enough for its benefit to arrive. Some options also restore Sha-Chi, reduce damage or help with ailments, so the largest healing number is not automatically the best choice.
Bells restore health and refill medicine uses in the standard game. Ordinary defeated enemies do not respawn just because you rest, which makes a cleared route back to a Bell valuable when you are low on supplies. This is a different situation from choosing to drink during an active boss combination, where the opening itself determines whether the heal will help.
You can equip two medicine types, allowing a more immediate recovery option to sit beside a longer-lasting buff. Check the remaining charges of the selected medicine before entering another encounter and use the item description to distinguish gradual recovery from an instant effect. If healing feels weak rather than completely unresponsive, inspect your upgrades and equipped accessory effects before treating the input as broken.
What version 1.0302256 actually changed
The official patch note describes performance improvements in certain areas, not a universal frame-rate fix. On PC it also changes shader compilation, reduces stuttering associated with Bluetooth-connected controllers, and fixes NVIDIA Reflex Auto behavior when V-Sync is enabled. Each statement has a limited scope, so it should be matched to the symptom you are experiencing.
For players who previously had ray tracing disabled, the first start after this patch requires a one-time shader recompilation. Players who already had ray tracing enabled follow a different startup path, and enabling ray tracing later makes its shaders compile separately on the next restart. A compilation screen after the update is therefore not by itself evidence that the installation has broken.
The note also warns that some third-party mods are incompatible with the update. If a problem begins after patching a modified installation, remove those modifications according to their own instructions and test the unmodified game before adding more fixes. The official note is dated November 3 on the game website, while the collected Steam announcement is dated November 4; those are source dates, not proof of two different patches.
Make one reversible comparison at a time
Record where the issue happens, which patch is installed and whether the same action reliably reproduces it. A crash during launch, a long shader-compilation screen and a hitch while moving through a particular area are different symptoms. Keeping those cases separate makes it easier to judge a change and avoids applying an unrelated fix merely because it appears in a search result.
Finish pending client updates and verify the installation if files may be incomplete. On Steam, the documented check is under the game's Properties, then Installed Files, then Verify integrity of game files. Let the verification finish before testing again; repeatedly running the same check without a changed result adds little information.
For graphics-related symptoms, compare the same location with a lower rendering load and ray tracing disabled, then restart when the setting requires it. Restore the previous option if it makes no difference instead of accumulating changes you can no longer explain. These are diagnostic comparisons, not guarantees of higher FPS, and this wiki has not benchmarked your particular hardware.
