Missables to Check Before Moving On

· 5 min read

Finish the early Outpost and Thieves' Camp quests before defeating Bai Chilian, and review your optional-story progress before entering Mirage Estate. Those are different kinds of progression checkpoints, while individual choices such as Red's first encounter can affect particular rewards. This guide covers documented risks rather than claiming a fully verified list of every missable in the game.

The early settlement change

The collected missables guide identifies Bai Chilian as the encounter after which affected residents become Maskless. That changes their earlier friendly interactions, so a plan to return later can fail even though the region remains physically accessible. Finish the local errands and collect the associated rewards before advancing beyond that point.

Yu'er's herbs, Flesh Lily request and wounded-thief quest deserve particular attention. Honor Among Thieves also belongs to the early camp's interaction sequence, while Quick Hand Zhang's rescue opens useful opportunities. Use the quest journal and the actual reward conversations rather than assuming that finding a requested item automatically completes the task.

Equipment can depend on a decision

The Twin Fish Pendant route requires leaving Red alive during the first encounter. Killing an optional opponent immediately is therefore not always the safest completionist choice. Check the item acquisition condition before following a combat guide that is concerned only with winning the current fight.

Quick Hand Zhang's initial rescue is another documented reward interaction. This does not justify declaring every accessory in the game missable or publishing a total that has not been verified. Keep a list of specific conditions and the reward affected by each one, so the warning remains useful rather than becoming a vague instruction to fear every story step.

Locked does not always mean missable

Flaming Mane, Tiger Cannon and the repaired Illusory Pipa intentionally open routes discovered earlier. A barrier requiring one of those tools can be a normal reason to return later rather than evidence that a reward is permanently lost. Distinguish those tool gates from an NPC or story state that actually changes.

The same distinction applies to map completion. Discovering a Bell can reveal a region without collecting every item, while a quest can become unavailable even when the map is fully visible. Track the story deadline and access requirement separately instead of treating every unfinished marker as the same kind of risk.

Keep the estate review focused

Before Mirage Estate, review the purple optional-story chains and the dependencies involving the lake mystery. Some objectives have later steps inside the estate, so finish what is available and note what must continue afterward. The warning about unfinished business should prompt that review rather than an assumption that fast travel will repair any missed requirement.

Do not confuse a locked path with a missed reward

A damp-bramble passage awaiting Flaming Mane and a settlement conversation awaiting your return are different kinds of unfinished business. The first can be a deliberate later exploration target, while the second may need attention before Bai Chilian. Label them separately when deciding what to finish before advancing the story.

The same principle applies at the later estate checkpoint. Resolve available prerequisites, but do not invent a requirement to obtain an objective that only becomes accessible inside the next area. A careful missables plan follows the quest dependencies and explicit warnings rather than interpreting every incomplete journal line as proof that you must stop all progress.

Check the early quest deadline

Defeating Bai Chilian changes the early settlements and prevents further friendly interactions with affected NPCs in the Outpost and Thieves' Camp. This is why early errands should be resolved before finishing that part of the Crimson Forest story. Returning to the map afterward does not restore the earlier version of those conversations.

Yu'er's tasks are particularly easy to postpone because their ingredients and patients are spread across optional paths. Finish the work you can complete in Weeping Creek Valley and the Crimson Forest, and return to collect the rewards before crossing the story threshold. Quick Hand Zhang's rescue and the letter delivery for Honor Among Thieves belong on the same practical review of local business.

This deadline does not mean that every collectible in both regions disappears. Tools obtained later deliberately reopen routes in earlier areas, and some rewards remain available through backtracking. Separate a missed NPC interaction from a locked exploration passage so you know whether to complete a quest now or simply record a place to revisit.

Keep the later story checkpoint separate

The Mirage Estate warning concerns the larger mystery and ending route, not the earlier settlement change after Bai Chilian. Published ending guides recommend completing the available purple story quests before entering the estate. If the game warns about unfinished business, review the journal before continuing rather than assuming that the ability to fast travel makes the warning harmless.

The important connected threads include the Illusory Pipa, the Herald's Illusion and Secrets at the Heart of the Lake. These lead through optional regions, the Acolyte Masks and the Crystal Puppet Eyes, so progress can be blocked by a missing prerequisite somewhere else. A quest being marked optional means the main story can continue without it; it does not mean the quest is irrelevant to the ending you want.

Some objectives continue inside the estate, including later steps involving Long Pillars and Quick Hand Zhang. The practical rule is to finish every currently available prerequisite, then continue those ongoing objectives when the next area makes them accessible. Avoid turning a guide's shorthand about finishing everything first into an impossible demand to collect an item located beyond the checkpoint itself.

Return when your traversal tools change

A blocked route often means you need a later tool, not that you overlooked a nearby key. The Feather Bow can interact with certain hanging objects, Flaming Mane clears damp brambles, and the Tiger Cannon breaks the rock barriers associated with it. Their discovery order is part of the exploration structure, so an early map can legitimately contain a passage you cannot open yet.

The Illusory Pipa is another important example because its repair spans multiple regions. Once restored, it clears specified mist and wind barriers and opens access to further exploration, including the Mountain of Imprisonment route. Keep the name of the obstacle and the nearest Bell together in your notes so you can return with the right tool.

Opening a physical route and preserving a quest are separate concerns. A new Phantom Edge may let you revisit a chest later, while a story event can already have changed the NPC who would have given you a reward. Before advancing a major quest, check the journal and the relevant missable conditions instead of assuming that fast travel makes every unfinished objective recoverable.
